PROBE INTO MISSING MAIL

hg.editorial@archant.co.uk
08 April 2009
An investigation is underway into a suspected 18-month postal fraud that has left thousands of residents with lost, delayed or damaged mail.

Around 15,000 items of undelivered mail set for Lower and Upper Clapton have been recovered by the Royal Mail. Some of the items recovered by investigators have been damaged beyond repair.

A former postal worker at the centre of the probe is being quizzed by Royal Mail investigators, who have the power to bring prosecutions.

The urgent investigation was launched after residents in the E5 postcode reported not receiving their mail.

More than 500 householders have been affected including residents in Upper Clapton Road, Woodmill Road, Beaumont Court and Station Parade in Upper Clapton; and Seaton Point on the Nightingale estate in Lower Clapton.

Customers with concerns should contact the customer services team on 0845 7740 740.
