Taken in an instant
 | | Charlotte Adams |
A GIRL of five was mown down and killed by a hit-and-run driver as she walked home from her school Christmas play.
Charlotte Adams was struck by a red BMW, which mounted the pavement yards from her home on Thursday evening last week.
The car careered on through a brick wall and ploughed down a grass verge on the Pembury estate in Lower Clapton, trapping Charlotte beneath its wheels.
Her mother, Jean, was seriously injured by the car, which came to rest near the family home in Bicknor House in Bodney Road. Two men fled the scene.
Charlotte was rushed to Homerton University Hospital by ambulance, where she was later pronounced dead. Her mum is in a stable condition.
The family were on their way home after watching Charlotte's dad, Martyn, play Santa Claus at St Scholastica's primary school in Kenninghall Road.
Her father and horrified sister, 15-year-old Bernadette, witnessed the carnage.
Mr Adams, 45, said there would be "no Christmas" after the tragedy, which left his daughter dead and his wife with a damaged neck, spine and broken ribs.
