Top shelf victory
 | | Newsagent Hamdy Shahein |
A STOKE Newington newsagent, who took on his wholesaler for continuing to send him girlie magazines to sell, has won a small victory.
A panel of independent arbitrators has found that high street giant, W. H. Smith News, had failed to meet industry standards by continuing to supply Hamdy Shahein with top-shelf publications despite repeated requests not to since 1989.
"The wholesaler is censured for failing to implement appropriate control measures and staff training in relation to this matter when it has been clearly aware of Mr Shahein's views for many years," said a report by the arbitrators
The Stoke Newington High Street newsagent and father-of-three is now considering legal action to prevent anyone else facing the 16-year battle that has seen him send back more than 70 packages, containing 2,000 top-shelf items, and make more than 50 phone calls of complaint to W. H. Smith.
