Shoreditch's Light Bar was saved from demolition on Thursday evening after councillors voted to defer plans to build a 51-storey tower on the site.

Developers Hammerson were told to go back to the drawing board and include the popular bar in their designs for site at the southern end of Shoreditch High Street.

The bar's owner, James Goff, told the Gazette: "We think it is a great result and we look forward to Hammerson drawing up a plan that everyone is happy with."

The proposals, which were backed by planning officers, were being considered as the same time as the council was consulting about include the site in the nearby Shoreditch High Street Conservation Area.

"Now I think there is a clear message that this building should stay and should be included in the conservation area", Mr Goff added.
