Woman's bus ordeal
A HACKNEY woman was held on a bus against her will by a bus driver after she asked him to stop using his mobile phone while driving.
Elise Richards, 29, who boarded the 393 heading towards Highbury from Stoke Newington Church Street on Tuesday afternoon last week, was trapped on the bus after she refused to get off following a confrontation with the driver.
"The driver was on his mobile phone and was stopping abruptly and not paying much attention to the road," said Elise.
"I asked him to stop talking on his phone, but he just told me to f**k off and started insulting other passengers, including two men, who had intervened."
She said the driver then became aggravated. He put the mobile in his lap and said if she wasn't happy she could leave the bus before asking everybody to get off the bus as he was running late.
"Myself and the two men stayed on the bus," said Elise. "I told him I wasn't leaving until he apologised.
"At this point he got out of his cabin and pushed one of the men out of the door and then pushed the button above the door to close it and got back into his cabin.
"The other man got off the bus as well. One of the men stayed in front of the bus to try and stop him driving off. I asked him to stop the bus, but he said I could go all the way to the end with him.
"He carried on to Highbury and Islington roundabout, stopped in the bus waiting area and let me off.
A spokeswoman for Transport for London, to whom East Thames Buses, the 393 operators, report, said the driver had been identified and taken off duty that day.
