Hoxton Post Office Could Re-Open
Hackney Council moved a step closer to re-opening Murray Grove Post Office following approval from the cabinet in a meeting on Monday (October 26).
The Council will now go out to tender to find a partner to run the Hoxton post office and it is hoped it could re-open next summer.
It closed in June 2008 as part of the Post Office Network Change Programme, but a public consultation with residents and local businesses this summer demonstrated strong support for it to reopen.
Jules Pipe, Mayor of Hackney, said: "The closure has affected the way people go about daily tasks such as using postal services, paying rent and bills, and receiving benefits and pensions.
"If the tender is successful, residents and businesses will need to support the post office by using it regularly to ensure the council can keep it open for them in the long-term.
