Julia Olofsson and her team at Blade Hairclub have come up with an innovative concept that mixes hair cuts with cocktails.

It’s called ‘hairclubbing’, and is all about transforming a solitary experience into something you can enjoy with your friends.

A far cry from my usual trip to the hairdresser, where I might sedately sip on a cup of white tea and catch up on the latest edition of Elle.

There’s a real party vibe going on at the Frith Street salon in Soho, and it’s been fitted out with a bar stocking all the spirits under the sun.

I was headed to a gig around the corner on Oxford Street with my boyfriend afterwards, so I took him along for the ride - and some drinks.

He sat at the subterranean bar and learned all about the difference between single malt and bourbon from Julia’s husband Stroo, a self-confirmed whisky fanatic.

Meanwhile Ben, who was about to cut my hair, showed me to my chair and the drinks menu on the iPad attached to it, from where you can also watch Netflix if you fancy.

Ben is the perfect stylist. He’s charming, chatty, and chops hair with flair. A talented multi-tasker, he keeps up an engaging conversation while delivering the hair cut I’ve wanted for years, putting layers in all the right places.

To get around the licensing issue, Julia has turned her salon into a club. Membership costs £45 a year and gets you discounts on services and drinks.

A precision cut and blow dry is £45 or £36 for members – an absolute bargain.
