Since the release of his debut EP in 2005 Heston has consistently served up delicious portions of soul at its finest.

This Dominican singer-songwriter can sing and write a song and it’s no surprise to know he has been compared to the likes of the late Marvin Gaye and musical maestro Leon Ware.

If you’ve never listened to his music before than Love Junkie, his fourth album, is very aptly named as you will be hooked.

Listening to the single Love Junkie, the first track on the album, I heard a hint of Maxwell peppered with a sprinkle of D’Angelo and it went down a treat.

It’s refreshing to hear new soul music that doesn’t containing samples from the 70s and 80s - This album is raw unadulterated material.

The other stand out tracks for me were Resign To You which reminded me of Mr Gaye’s early material and Destiny which featured up-and-coming American female singer Abyss.

Tip: She’s a name to look out for.

The last two tracks on the album Our Father and Come With Me (featuring Sara Lugo) was a wonderful reminder of Heston’s Caribbean roots thanks to its reggae flavour.

Heston, a self-confessed perfectionist, said: “Creating timeless music has always been my ultimate goal. I want to leave the world with music that can be played for a lifetime.”

He has hit the bullseye and I am a junkie – for more of his music.

Rating: Four stars.

Heston will be performing for one night at the Jazz Café in Camden this Sunday (27).

The Times has a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader.
