Field Day chief is relishing return of Ride

After bagging Ride’s first festival headline show, a special anniversary appearance from Patti Smith and a landmark appearance from Caribou, Tom Baker has plenty to shout about for this year’s festival.

After the success of expanding to a two day event last year, Field Day returns across the weekend of June 6 and 7. Saturday retains a dance-orientated line-up, with acts such as Caribou, Django Django and FKA Twigs, while Sunday has more of a relaxed atmosphere, headlined by the recently-reformed Ride alongside artists including Savages and Mac DeMarco.

Festival organiser Tom Baker explains: “I’ve been a massive fan of Ride ever since I first hear Nowhere 20 years ago.

“Like [2014 headliners] Pixies, for a band who I’ve listened to for 20 years and never seen live, it’s fantastic to be part of their comeback and be part of their first festival headline show ever.”

It is equally special for Baker to see Caribou close the Saturday, having worked with Dan Snaith since the musician’s days under the moniker Manitoba. He is also excited to welcome Patti Smith on Sunday for a special 40th anniversary celebration of her classic album Horses.

As the festival continues to grow, Sunday will feature more live stages than last year, while Street Feast returns in a larger capacity to curate the culinary offerings with Venn Street Food.

Another exciting addition is the Tradiio stage, which gives fans the chance to vote their favourite new acts into the line-up via a rewards-based music discovery app.

“It’s a very nice organic way of us supporting brand new music that you may never have come across before ever and also engaging with fans of those artists in a quite fun way,” says Baker.
