Artists are throwing open their studio doors to the public in east London this weekend as part of a free ‘open studios’ event for the 50th anniversary of the Space arts organisation.

The public can discover work by some of the Britain’s top artists, from internationally-acclaimed names to new and emerging talent.

They can see behind the scenes of a working studio, meet artists, photographers, designers, illustrators and other creative people face-to-face and buy works of art direct.

“Our open studios are buzzing events and this year is our biggest ever,” the organisation’s chief Anna Harding said. “This is a chance to explore buildings that people pass every day without realising the ground-breaking and world-class art being created right on their doorstep.”

More than 200 artists in 13 studio buildings are involved.

Studios open tomorrow (Saturday) 11am to 5pm in Hackney include Belsham Street, Deborah House in Retreat Place, Martello Street and The Triangle both near London Fields, and Victor House in Richmond Road, Dalston.

Studios open on Sunday are Brickfields Road in Bromley-by-Bow, Eastway in Hackney Wick, and Bridget Riley studios and Britannia Works both in Dace Road, Old Ford.
