Lindsey Morgan’s late effort proved enough to keep West Ham’s promotion dreams alive and put a dent in QPR’s survival hopes.

The first half was a true battle of the midfield, with the Hammers having to rely on breakaway attacks, but centre-backs Rosey Sullivan and Danica Revell were in fine form and Rangers were forced to try long-range efforts that Nikki Duncan dealt with confidently.

The second period was more frantic and more evenly balanced as West Ham’s stamina and fitness began to dwindle.

However, the visitors enjoyed a bit of luck after 51 minutes when Cherrelle Albert’s powerful shot struck the far post and Sullivan made a crucial clearance to prevent QPR from scoring.

The longer the game went on the more West Ham gained control and they finally broke the deadlock in the 78th minute.

Becky Merritt showed some clever footwork before firing in a powerful shot that Rangers keeper Michelle Beazley could only push back out into play.

Morgan was on hand to drive in another shot, but this time Beazley could not stop the ball from finding the back of the net.

West Ham: Duncan, Grafton, Barling, Revell, Sullivan, Little, Morgan, Roache, Blanchflower, Merritt, Shepherd. Subs: Duxbury, Stimson, Abegglen, Bowers.
