A UNIVERSITY is hosting a conference investigating the devastation and regeneration of London following the Blitz.

Using local and international perspectives, and focusing on urban planning and reconstruction, ‘The Blitz and its Legacy’ will take place at the University of Westminster from September 3-4.

The conference coincides with the 70th anniversary of the Blitz on London, and the initiation of an intensive phase of aerial bombardment suffered by the capital city and later by many other large towns and cities in Britain.

Dr Mark Clapson, Reader in History at the University of Westminster said: “Few people recognise the direct effects of the Blitz experience upon the cities and towns we live and work in today.

“Some of our modern architecture and town planning display clear links back to this intense period of social, political and economic transformation.”

The conference will take place at University of Westminster, Portland Hall, 4 - 12, Little Titchfield Street, London W1W 7UW.
