Two Shoreditch nightclubs will be the first in London to trial booze patrols for people who’ve had too much to drink.

Alcohol charity Drinkaware and the area watch group Shoreditch Pubwatch are stationing trained staff in Cargo and The Village Underground on Fridays and Saturdays – starting tonight.

They will be a point of contact for vulnerable clubbers, or people whose friends are worse for wear, being harassed or in need of first aid.

Pubwatch chair Paul Merry said: “We’re always keen to put customer wellbeing first and Crew will enable customers to have an even better night out.”

Elaine Hindal, Drinkaware chief exec, added: “Drinkaware is committed to finding new and innovative ways to reduce the harms caused by alcohol and to help keep people safe on a night out.

“Drinkaware Crew in Shoreditch will carry out a vital role in supporting vulnerable people whilst minimising the associated costs that drunken behaviour can have on the local night-time economy.”
