Bottles of ammonia were found on stolen mopeds dumped on a Homerton estate after a police chase.

Officers approached a gang of “suspicious” men in the area on Friday night but they drove away.

After a chase through the streets the cops found these two scooters on the Kingsmead Estate, with bottles of the noxious substance left behind.

Ammonium hydroxide is commonly used in cleaning products and garden sprays. In May an officer in Battersea was hospitalised after being sprayed with ammonia when stopping a moped.

A Hackney police spokesman said: “Our team approached a large group of males who made off immediately upon seeing them. “Sadly no arrests were made but we’ve gleaned good intelligence from the incident.

“Taking the mopeds out of circulation is a great result for us too.”
