Two friends have moved their record store north of the river and opened up in Hackney Central.

Matt Estall and Kevin Hendrick, who used to work together at Flashback in Crouch End, have launched Tome Records in what used to be a hairdresser’s in Graham Road.

The pair had spent two-and-a-half years on an industrial estate in Bermondsey and said moving to the middle of Hackney had done wonders for footfall.

“We were looking all over and saw this place, and it was affordable and Hackney Central is a great spot for a record shop.

“It’s been going great, it’s a world away from where we were!”

When Tome launched in south London it focused around the hardcore music scene, but now they stock a range of genres including soul, reggae, hip-hop and electronic music.

It’s also opened seven days a week, from 11am to 7pm. Check out the website here.
