Argentinian-born Diego Dinapoli, twice European downhill mountain biking champion, opened the doors at Armourtex Cycles, in Rowe Lane.

The 32-year-old has also become the shop manager despite still competing in mountain biking competitions.

Opened next door to Armourtex Power Coating, and backed by its directors Duncan Willis and Steve Ronketti, the cycle chop has an attached workshop.

Workshop manager and mechanic of 31 years Robert Macbeth said the shop is “unique”.

“We are able to power coat, strip and rebuild bikes on the premises which no other shop can do.” They are able to repair bikes both old and new.

He added: “I’m really happy with how it’s going so far. We’ve had customers coming in the door already after just a few weeks.”

Up and coming mountain bike designer Ted James also works with the shop which hopes to take on more staff in the future.

Armourtex Cycles is open Monday-Friday, 7am-5pm at 14-16 Rowe Lane, Hackney, E9 6EL.
