Three gang members are facing jail after one of them fired a gun at police officers in an unmarked car as they hunted for rivals.

Police had been monitoring CCTV in Mandeville Street, Lower Clapton, in January last year when they noticed three men on bikes acting suspiciously.

As an unmarked patrol car approached the men, Ricardo Miles, 21, of Gilbert Street, Enfield, fired a shot towards the vehicle at around 11.30pm on January 10.

The shot hit the road in front of the car and Miles tried to fire the gun again, but it jammed and he threw it away. Miles, along with Adebola Alimi, 22, of Medina Road, Islington, and Daniel Ikumelo, 23, of Kenninghall Road, Upper Clapton, abandoned their bikes and fled across a nearby footbridge.

The gun was later found at the scene along with a knife which was also dropped during the pursuit.

The three are known gang members, who were in dispute with others from the area, and police claimed during a trial that on the night they were riding around looking to harm rivals.

They were found guilty of possessing a handgun with intent to endanger life and possession of a knife following the trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday.

Det Insp Neil Bradburn, of the Met's Trident team which investigates gun crime, said: "This result is the culmination of a great deal of hard work by Trident which has lead to the conviction of three dangerous offenders. This investigation clearly demonstrates that tackling gang-related violence remains a key priority for the MPS and we will continue to target and convict those who choose to carry weapons and cause harm in London's communities." The men will be sentenced at a later date.
