51-year-old man arrested and bailed as investigating officers ask witnesses to come forward

Police officers cordoned off Dalston Junction after a collision between a cyclist and a lorry.

The cyclist who died after colliding with a lorry at Dalston Junction last week has been named.

Daniel Cox was seriously injured when he collided with a large Mercedes good truck shortly before 4.45pm on Wednesday (February 2).

The 28-year-old of Lower Clapton Road was taken to the Royal London Hospital in a critical condition. But he died from his injuries at 3pm on Friday.

The lorry driver stopped at the scene. Police officers arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been bailed to return, pending further enquiries, on a date in July.

Emotional messages to Mr Cox, who was an art theorist and bartender at the Edinburgh Castle pub in Camden, have been left on a white ghost bike at the scene of the crash at the junction with Kingsland Road.

An inquest opened and adjourned at Poplar Coroner’s Court on Tuesday, 8 February.

Detective Constable Tony Millington, who is investigating the collision, has asked witnesses to get in contact by calling 020 8597 4874.
