Dalston’s Kingsland High Street, described by Italian Vogue as one of the coolest places in Britain, has been given the makeover thanks to a City Hall fund to make public spaces fit for a world class city.

Transport for London (TfL) and Hackney Council designed the improvements to cyling facilities, roads and pavements between the junction of Crossway and Shacklewell Lane to the junction with Dalston Lane.

Mayor of Hackney, Jules Pipe, said: “The London Overground network has connected Dalston to the rest of the capital, opening it up with more and more people now visiting, and confirming Dalston’s position as one of London’s cultural and creative quarters.

“The improvement works make it easier for residents and business to move around Dalston, and are part of the Council’s wider vision for the town centre, which has included the new Dalston C. L. R. James Library and Hackney Archive, one of the biggest to open this year, as well as the cultural spaces of Dalston Square and Gillett Square.”
