Hackney has been named as the fourth worst hot spot for rodents in the country and the second worst in London according to a national survey.

The inner city borough made 2,675 call-outs to tackle mice, which averaged 11 per 1000 people in 2012 according to the British Pest Control Association (BPCA).

The City of London, which topped the survey, had 22 call-outs per 1000 people.

Hackney Council was also rated second worst in London and eighteenth worst nationally in the country for the amount of pest call-outs per 1000 people.

This amounts to 5848 call-outs in 2012 for all pests including rats, mice, cockroaches, bed bugs and ants and averages 24 call-outs per 1000 people. The City of London had the highest number of call-outs in the country with 41 call-outs per 1000 people.

The UK average was nine call-outs per 1000 people.

Despite the high number of call-outs, Hackney has performed significantly better than last year when it was fourth worst in the country with an average of 34 call-outs per person and 8, 366 call-outs over the year.
