A weekend of pumpkin carving will kick-off a lantern show and a festival of light at the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden.

Organisers at the garden in Dalston Lane are expecting even more people than the 20,000 who showed up in 2016 to enjoy the spectacle of 550 carved pumpkins lit up.

Marie Murray said: “Last year we were astonished to see the size of the queue for the first Lantern Show night with 5,000 people visiting on that night alone.

“This is our favourite event of the whole year.

“It’s a brilliant showcase of the creativity of residents young and old and the garden looks truly magical.”

Carving sessions take place on Saturday from noon to 5pm and on Sunday from noon to 4pm, with the first big light-up show on Sunday evening at 6pm.

Pumpkins are provided for a small donation and are left in the garden until October 29 as part of the week-long festival.
