More acts have been announced today for a live festival on Hackney Marshes this summer to rival Glastonbury.

Jessie J, Michael Kiwanuka, Will.i.am, Lana Del Rey and Florence & The Machine are just some of the big acts confirmed to join Tinie Tempah, Plan B, Professor Green and Leona Lewis on the bill for Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend 2012.

The biggest ever free-ticketed event takes place on June 23 and 24, the same weekend Glastonbury is usually held, but is taking a year off.

There will be 100,000 tickets available for the BBC’s biggest ever free-ticketed live event which is part of the London 2012 Festival.

It will feature over 100 UK and international artists performing on six BBC stages including the Radio 1 Main Stage, Radio 1Xtra Arena, Dance Arena, In New Music We Trust Stage and the BBC Introducing Stage.

Professor Green joined Radio 1’s Chris Moyles this morning on his breakfast show as he announced the latest acts added to the line-up.

“Hackney is home and the place where it all started for me so I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing event,” he said.

“Hackney is a great place, so events like this and the Olympics will help showcase the borough in a positive light. It’s going to be an amazing weekend and I’m delighted to be a part of it.”

There are 100,000 tickets available across the weekend – tickets are free, but there will be a small fee of £2.50 per ticket to cover ticket handling and administration costs.

Everyone can start registering their interest to attend by registering their details and uploading a photo on bbc.co.uk/radio1 between 8.15am on Monday February 6 until 11pm Monday March 19.

For those registered, there will be two opportunities to apply for a ticket - 11am on Sunday March 25 and 4pm on Monday March 26, online or by phone.

Most tickets will be reserved for those from Hackney and the other five Olympic boroughs, with allocation on a first-come, first-served basis.

The line-up is impressive and, with much more to come, the Hackney Weekend will be at the top of the list for music fans this year.

“The BBC couldn’t have made a better choice - the Hackney Marshes is a unique venue, there’s a huge level of local enthusiasm and, with the Olympic Games in Hackney, we’re better prepared than anyone to host the event.”

More artists will be added to the bill in the coming weeks.
