The Year 9 and 10 youngsters from Cardinal Pole and Urswick schools worked with London College of Fashion students, using material and clothes donated this month to the summer fete at St Joseph’s Hospice in Mare Street.

The pupils were given training on industrial sewing and pressing machines before taking it in turns to press, sew and control quality – all in just three days.

Wilbert Duncan, 14, from Urswick school in Paragon Road, said: “I had no idea you could make so many things out of old clothes and I didn’t know this college was here so it’s been brilliant.”

The 75 finished items will be sold in the St Joseph’s café and shop and all funds will go towards providing care for people nearing the end of life.
