Hackney’s young people are invited to play a part in building the borough’s future by joining a construction apprenticeship scheme.

Run by Hackney Homes, it will give 16 to 19-year-olds the chance to learn a trade in the repairs and maintenance industry.

Apprentices will get training, paid work experience and a qualification when they complete the course.

Third year apprentice carpenter Derrie O’Halloran said the scheme was a “great learning experience”. “I love that every day is different and no two jobs are the same.”

Cllr Philip Glanville, Hackney Council Cabinet Member for Hackney Homes, said: “The apprentice scheme is a great opportunity for young people to gain practical experience which could lead to future employment.

“I hope that many graduates from the scheme are able to contribute towards improving the homes of residents of Hackney.”

Those interested in participating should contact Tracey Maddix, HR Support Officer on 0208 356 6935 or visit www.HackneyHomes.org.uk for an application pack. The closing date for applications is August 10 at 5pm.
