A woman is fighting for her life after being hit by a cyclist in Kingsland High Street this evening.

The rider, a man, came off his bike but did not help the victim, or call 999, police said. Instead he cycled off and the bike was later found dumped in Approach Close, Stoke Newington.

The victim, in her 50s, was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition. Police are trying to track down her next of kin.

“Police were called at 5.07pm to reports of a pedestrian and cyclist in collision in Kingsland High Street,” said a Met spokesperson.

“Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.”

The street, opposite the Rio Cinema in Dalston, is shut while police investigate. Officers are also viewing CCTV of the crash.

Det Con Darren Case, of the Met’s serious collisions unit, said: “This is a shocking incident as it appears the cyclist involved did not stop to assist the victim or contact the emergency services, instead making off.

“We need to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time. Did you see the cyclist before, during or after the collision? Maybe you are in possession of dash cam footage or filmed the cyclist on your mobile phone as he made off, if you did it is vital that you make contact with us.

“We are also appealing directly to the cyclist along with his friends and family who may know of his whereabouts, the pedestrian has suffered life threatening injuries as a result of this collision and it is important that you do the right thing and make contact with police.”

Anyone with information can call police on 020 8597 4874 or 101 quoting CAD 5837 of August 28.
