A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a cyclist died in Stamford Hill yesterday.

The 29-year old female cyclist suffered critical injuries following the collision with the lorry, and died at the scene a short while later.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision in Amhurst Park near the junction with Seven Sisters Road at 8am.

The woman’s next of kin have been informed but officers await formal identification before she can be identified.

The driver of the lorry who stopped at the scene has been bailed to return, pending further enquiries.

A post-mortem examination will be held at Hackney Mortuary today.

Detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to call 020 8597 4874.

  • k-tel1967, If you took the number of the vehicle you might be able to proceed against them. Splashing pedestrians is an offence.

  • I Have noticed How fast Lorry Drivers Tend to Drive, Last week I was splashed with rain water as a Lorry zoomed past me on a road I shouted out my feelings In response but of course The driver didn't stop to apologize. another driver stopped and made a remark about wearing water proof clothing and drove away. I wasn't happy of course but my point Is if a Lorry Driver Is so intent on reaching his destination That he fails to notice a pool of water alongside the Kerb and proceeds to leave a pedestrian Drenched Then How less Likely He Would be to show consideration towards a cyclist? Of course I want to believe it was an accident but the fact is drivers these days Tend to be inconsiderate towards fellow drivers as well as cyclists. How many more Lives face being Destroyed because of the thoughtlessness of drivers?
