A memorial service is set to take place in honour of Wayne Powell, nearly two years to the day the Hackney man was gunned down in the street in Chingford.

The Powell family, who are planning the service along with their extended family and friends, have also spoken publicly for the first time to make a heartfelt appeal for information about his death.

Wayne, who worked for British Rail, was due to become a father for the fifth time when he was murdered on July 5, 2010.

Police say the 38-year-old had no links to gangs and his death remains a mystery despite numerous police appeals for information.

Wayne’s sister Tracy, speaking on behalf of the Powell family, said: “We are asking that any information - no matter how small or trivial – be passed unto the officers who are dealing with this case.

“The person or persons responsible for this crime and those who have information live in this community, and we are asking you from our hearts to please help us find his murderer.

“We are appealing for your help in bringing to justice those responsible for this crime and his senseless death which has saddened his family, his friends, and the community.

“It has also robbed his children of having their father’s guidance in their young lives.

“If there is anyone out there who knows something, anything, we are appealing to your conscience and heart’s to please help us and the police to find his murderer.”

Wayne grew up in Kyverdale Road, Stamford Hill, and attended Hackney Downs School, in Downs Park Road.

He was in his black BMW in Higham Station Avenue, Chingford, when the gunman approached him. He was shot as he got out to try to talk to the man, and the killer walked off towards Coningsby Gardens.
