It involved a pedal cyclist and a double-decker coach which collided on the junction of Ruckholt Road (A106) and the East Cross Route (A12) next to the Olympic Park at around 7.30pm.

Police, the London Ambulance Service, including the air ambulance, attended the scene but the cyclist, a 28-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8.14pm.

He has not yet been formally identified but an inquest will open and adjourn today at Poplar Coroner’s Court.

A post-mortem is scheduled for tomorrow.

A 65-year-old man was arrested at the scene at 9.28pm on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries until late August.

The coach was carrying journalists from the Olympic Park at the time.

The Metropolitan Police’s Road Death Investigation Unit (RDIU) is investigating the collision.

Anyone with information should call the RDIU on 020 8597 4874 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
