These four puppies were found dumped in a box and abandoned in Victoria Park, shivering from the cold.

Luckily, the Staffordshire bull terriers were found by a man who heard whimpering coming from inside the box.

He brought them straight to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, who checked the seven-week-old puppies over and found them all in good health.

The home’s intake manager Steve Craddock said: “These puppies had a lucky escape.

“It was a cold day and they could have easily got hypothermia, suffocated or died of dehydration.

“Fortunately, they were found in time and – after a drink, a sleep and some TLC – made a full recovery, and now they’re charging about, enjoying life with playful puppy enthusiasm.”

The three female puppies, who were found on Tuesday last week, have been named Emmeline, Lydia and Edith, and the male puppy Davison, after famous Suffragettes (Pankhurst, Becker, Garrud and Emily respectively).
