New Stoke Newington arts venue Earth needs more donations as its community music programme crowdfunder draws to a close – and a local firm has pledged to match-fund donations for 24 hours.

Evolutionary Arts Hackney – Earth – opened last month in the old Savoy and ABC Cinema building following a multi-million-pound renovation.

Bosses also launched a £50,000 crowdfunder to fund a not-for-profit social programme called Earth Studios, which will be run in partnership with Bethnal Green charity Community Music.

The first £26,000 would pay to renovate the building’s basement for use as a studio, while anything above that would help kit it out with equipment.

As it stands the crowdfunder is on £17,645. To help get it over the line Ticket Tailor, an online retailer in Hackney Downs, has generously pledged to match any donations made until 2.30pm tomorrow.

Founder Jonny White told the Gazette: “We’ve been looking for stuff in the local area to support because we benefit from it but are online based, so don’t get to contribute much.

“This relates to what we are about and we are hoping we can push the total up a bit more before the deadline.”
