Glastonbury might not be taking place this year but the spirit of the festival will come to Hackney tomorrow (Friday June 29) with the launch of a London Fields producer’s film remake.

Robin Mahoney co-produced the 1996 version of Glastonbury The Movie, and has now reworked footage of the iconic festival, using new material and contemporary digital technology.

“The film was shot in widescreen CinemaScope, the widescreen format favoured by the makers of Hollywood epics, and now that digital cinema technology has caught up the time seemed right to re-make it for a new generation of cinema goers,” said Robin.

“Once we’d started it was hard to stop. We had a whole new toolkit to work with and 15 years experience on the people we were when we made it the first time.

“We found a load of fantastic unseen material amongst the rushes.

“A lot of the footage had taken on a new significance with the benefit of hindsight and each instance of finding a gem that was overlooked in the original film was a eureka moment, it became a bit of an obsession.”

A question and answer session with the director follows the premiere of Glastonbury The Movie In Flashback this Friday at 11pm at the Hackney Picturehouse in Mare Street.
