Tributes are pouring in for the young cyclist who was killed in a collision with an Olympics bus near Hackney Wick yesterday evening (August 1).

Friends of Dan Harris, 28, from Ilford, have taken to Twitter in their hundreds share their memories and messages of condolence.

The graphic designer was hit by a bus carrying journalists just outside the Olympic Park at the junction of Ruckholt Road (A106) and the East Cross Route (A12).

Friend Sharon O’Dea tweeted she was in “shock” and “really upset” when she found out. She added: “Dan had such enthusiasm for *everything*.

“It’s awful news. Of all people. He’d only recently started cycling home - to avoid the tube during the Olympics. Sad irony.”

Thomas Walker tweeted: “One of the nicest guys I’ve ever met, and always the life and soul of a gathering. My thoughts are with family and friends.”

On his website, Mr Harris described himself as a “social media strategist, community manager, web editor and marketing drone by trade”.

He worked at printing company Moo, based in Shoreditch.

He listed cycling, rock climbing, running, kayaking, cooking, photography and going to music gigs as amongst his hobbies.

Just last week Mr Harris took to Twitter to berate cyclists who ignore traffic lights: “I’ve taken to loudly boo-ing cyclists who jump red lights. They give the rest of us a bad name.”

A mass memorial cycle ride is planned for Mr Harris on August 10.
