Youth and education Charity, City Year has been given £2,000 by the coffee company Starbuck’s Youth Action Fund to revamp a closed-off and unsafe area in a Haggerston school playground.
The money will pay to build a new outdoor learning space and reading hut at Sebright Primary School in Audrey Street, designed to help boost children’s reading abilities and inspire a love of books.
City Year brings together young people aged 18–25 to volunteer full-time in schools in disadvantaged communities across London.
A severely epileptic boy and his family were evicted from their home and split up last week due to bureaucratic rules – despite pleas from medical staff warning that the move could cause him to suffer life-threatening fits.
