Wedding couple’s misery after protesters cover Hackney Town Hall steps in graffiti
17:43 21 September 2016
Red footprints painted on the floor outside Hackney Town Hall will cost “thousands” of pounds to remove – and caused wedding day misery.
Campaign group Sisters Uncut covered the pavement in graffiti in an apparent bid to make incoming mayor Philip Glanville “keep his word” on giving domestic violence training to staff.
Specialist equipment had to be used to remove the paint, but not before a couple’s town hall wedding was made a misery because of it.
A spokesman said: “A spokesman said: “We’re extremely disappointed with this vandalism, which will cost taxpayers thousands of pounds to clean up and diverts resources and money away from vital frontline services.
“We’ve met Sisters Uncut twice to discuss their concerns, answer their questions and engage in a constructive discussion about domestic violence support. It’s regrettable that such positive dialogue should be followed by actions like this.
Sisters Uncut did not respond to a request for comment.
