London Lions suffered the worst start in their history to go 18-0 down on their way to year-ending defeat in Scotland.

Playing in front of the BBC TV cameras the home side exploded out of the blocks whilst the Lions combined for nine missed shots and five turnovers in their first 14 possessions.

A Lions timeout at 12-0 didn’t halt the slide, with a further six points scored by Rocks before Cory Dixon opened the Lions account with 4.20 minutes left in the first quarter.

A miserable eight points were all the Lions had to show for their efforts at the first break as they trailed 22-8.

And while things improved in the second quarter the visitors still lost that by four points to go into half time down by a 41-23 margin.

The visiting locker room must have been reeling, with a shooting percentage of just 17 per cent almost irrecoverable.

But Justin Robinson and Brandon Peel showed more aggression in the third quarter and composure seemed to return to the side, as they held their hosts to 16 points while scoring 20 themselves to make it 57-43.

Jack Isenbarger began to find his range and twice the Lions closed to eight points and then six, but time was against them and the hole had been dug leaving the home side to claim the victory in the last match of 2017.

The Lions had a night to forget at the Emirates Arena in a 35 per cent shooting display, as well as missing 10 attempts from the foul line.

Captain Kieron Achara led the way for Rocks with a dominant double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds in an impressive win.

The Lions now travel to Surrey Scorchers on New Year’s Day (4pm), before returning home to the Copper Box to host Sheffield Sharks on Sunday January 7.

Lions: Robinson 18, Isenbarger 15, Dixon 12, Peel 10, Hall 5, Ikhinmwin 5, Lanegger 4, Lockhart 0, Guede 0, Roberts 0.
