Middlesex’s Steven Finn has been called into the England squad for the Champions Trophy as a replacement for the injured Chris Woakes.

And Finn’s place in the England Lions has been taken by Essex seamer Jamie Porter, who will join up with county team-mate Dan Lawrence for their third and final game against South Africa A on Monday.

Finn was left out of the original Champions Trophy squad, after playing in the third match of the ODI series with South Africa at Lord’s when England lost by seven wickets.

But Woakes limped out of the opening match of the tournament against Bangladesh with a side strain, handing Finn a chance to come into the squad ahead of Tuesday’s meeting with New Zealand at Cardiff and their final group match against Australia at Edgbaston.

Finn, 28, has played in 69 ODIs and taken 102 wickets, and rejoins the senior side after taking 2-49 against South Africa A on Saturday, when Middlesex team-mate Dawid Malan scored 84 in a 144-run win.

England Lions had won the first match by nine wickets after Finn took 3-54 and Malan scored an unbeaten 125 from 110 balls, including a six and 15 fours.

Essex’s Lawrence did not play in either of the wins, but might get a chance in the final fixture at Northampton.

Porter was part of the Potential England Performance squad during the 2015/16 winter and is set to earn his first representative honours with the Lions.
