Middlesex’s bowlers showed fight on the third morning of their County Championship match with Leicestershire at a sunny Grace Road on Friday.

The home side ended the session 56-4 after tight bowling from Middlesex sent three of their batsman back to the pavillion before lunch.

The Grace Road side started the morning 0-1 after Harris removed Cosgrove with the final ball of day two, with the Seaxes’ attack continuing in the same vein as first innings hero Colin Ackerman – who made 196 – was bowled by James Harris for 3 to leave them 8-2.

The score soon became 20-3 after Harry Dearden was caught by wicketkeeper John Simpson, lured into a nick by the wily Tim Murtagh to make it six for the match after his 5-60 in the first innings.

Steven Finn extracted bounce to hit Mark Cosgrove on the helmet before Max Holden then got him lbw with only his second ball, with the score at 51-4.

Despite a generally flat track under a beautiful cloudless sky the ball kept low as the home side ended the morning four down, but more importantly 250 runs ahead in the match with five sessions remaining.
