Essex Senior League: Leyton Athletic 2 Clapton 4

Clapton climbed up to fifth in the Essex Senior League as they bounced back from two defeats on the spin with a 4-2 victory against Leyton Athletic.

Goals from Jason Ajoodha, Steven Sardinha, Ryan Reed and Hadi Habboushi sealed the three points for the Tons despite a late fight back from their opponents at the Wadham Lodge Stadium.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Ajoodha found the back of the net.

Sardinha then doubled his side’s lead as he stepped up and smashed home a penalty shot in the 33rd minute to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

The Tons picked up where they left off and in the 54th minute Reed stretched the lead to three as he looped a shot over the Leyton Athletic’s keepers head.

Two minutes later Hadi Habboushi made it 4-0 to Jonny Fowell’s side and they probably thought they were out of sight.

The hosts thought otherwise as Francesco Cicconi clawed one back in the 65th minute as they pushed on in a bid to make a come back.

In the 90th minute they netted another thanks to Dwade James but at that point it was too little too late.

Dylan Ebengo tweeted after the match: “Happy to captain the side to a 4-2 win away from home gutted to not get the clean sheet but the three points are the most important thing we go again on the weekend.”
