Clapton made it eight straight league wins as they edged past Barkingside with a 3-2 victory under the Friday night lights.
A brace from Ryan Reed and a goal from Jeffrey Cobblah was enough to seal the Tons the three points and keep them amongst the league leaders while Side fell to their fifth defeat in their last six league matches at Cricklefield Stadium.
The visitors went into the match without manager Jonny Fowell who had to go home due to illness and without a goalkeeper meaning the long-serving Jerry Jairette had to go in goal.
The first chance of the match fell to Barkingside’s Ben Clarke who curled a shot wide of the right post in the third minute.
Seven minutes later the Tons Jerry Jairette flew out of his net and stole the ball away from striker Tony Cookey as he tried to go round the stand-in keeper.
Both sides stood off and waited for their chances, with most of the play staying in the middle of the park, until the 31st minute when the hosts Euan Taylor-Reid flicked a shot over the bar after getting his boot onto an incoming cross from Bradley Gayer.
Clapton soon created a chance of their own as Aundre Spencer surged up the middle and tried his luck but fired into the arms of Will Hunt in the 36th minute.
The visitors then went on to break the deadlock three minutes later as Jeffrey Cobblah scrambled home the ball after Spencer picked him out at the back the post.
Barkingside hit back on the stroke of half-time as defender Best Toke headed home a corner to make it 1-1.
The Tons got off to a strong start in the second-half and found themselves back in the lead after three minutes as Ryan Reed fired past Hunt to make it 2-1.
They kept pressing and midfielder Steven Sardinha tried his luck from long range and it was almost humbled by keeper Hunt in the 55th minute.
Barkingside’s keeper Will Hunt pulled off a blinding save as he steered a shot over the bar for a corner in the 68th minute.
The hosts started pressing hard and were rewarded as Michael Ogboin fired a shot into the bottom right to make it 2-2 after breaking clear in the 73rd minute.
Clapton’s Ryan Reed put his side back in front as he netted his second of the night as he curled a shot into the top right corner from 25 yards in the 85th minute.
