James Alabi opened his account for Leyton Orient in stoppage time at Halifax Town to earn the O’s a point on the road this afternoon and stretch their unbeaten run this season to 10 games.

The forward, who was sent off in the recent draw at Gateshead, made a positive impact off the bench this time and scored his first goal for the E10 outfit to salvage a 1-1 draw for Justin Edinburgh’s team.

Marvin Ekpiteta went close for O’s in the ninth minute when his effort, following a free kick, was blocked.

The former East Thurrock United defender was involved again with 22 on the clock when Charlie Lee’s long throw found Macauley Bonne and his header was blocked and fell for Ekpiteta, but his shot was saved.

It remained goalless at the break and the deadlock was nearly broken 10 minutes into the second half when Bonne’s effort was deflected onto the post by Josh Koroma.

After failing to make the most of their opportunities, Orient paid the price when the hosts won a spot-kick in the 65th minute.

Dayle Southwell stepped up and fired the penalty past Dean Brill to give Halifax the lead and they looked set for all three points until Alabi’s intervention.

The former Tranmere Rovers striker come on with 81 played and 10 minutes later found the net to help Orient remain unbeaten.

O’s have dropped to third in the table after this result, but once again showed their astonishing character with another late leveller.

Next up for Edinburgh’s men is a home clash against John Still’s Barnet on Saturday (September 15).

Leyton Orient: Brill; Judd, Coulson, Ekpiteta, Widdowson; McAnuff ©, Clay (Harrold 76), Lee, Dayton (Alabi 81); Koroma, Bonne.

Unused substitutes: Sargeant, Happe, Lawless.
