The Cambridge United loanee has seen a lot change at Brisbane Road since he picked up a groin injury in September

Leyton Orient centre back Josh Coulson is keen to make up for lost time after seeing a fair amount change at Brisbane Road since his spent close to three months out thanks to injury.

The Cambridge United loanee suffered a groin issue during a 2-2 draw at Aldershot Town on September 23.

Orient were 13th after the clash at the Recreation Ground, but only three points off the play-off places.

Steve Davis was also head coach, but he was sacked after a lengthy run without a victory in the National League and replaced by Justin Edinburgh and the east Londoners are now 14 points off the top seven and 20th in the table.

Coulson said: “It was tough to be out without the results we were getting, so the winless run made it even tougher for me.

“I’m sure the physio and medical staff are glad I’m back on the pitch now and out of their hair for a bit.

“Both the injury and the results were frustrating, but it was nice to be involved again on Saturday at Haringey Borough and we’ve got a win on my first game back, so that’s good.”

The 28-year-old played his part in the FA Trophy victory at Coles Park after scoring with his last touch in the 58th minute.

Jobi McAnuff’s corner was volleyed home at the back post by Coulson before he was replaced straight after by Dan Happe.

Matt Harrold went on to net the winner for Orient in the 80th minute and hand new boss Edinburgh back-to-back victories after a losing debut at Solihull Moors on December 2.

The return of Coulson is sure to benefit O’s ahead of a busy festive period, but one person he won’t work with again for the immediate future at least is Davis.

Orient’s on-loan defender paid tribute to his old boss, who was sacked on November 14, and discusses his aim for the next month.

“Steve did bring me to the club and I was very sad to see him leave. The way it has panned out was obviously not how it was planned when I first came to Leyton Orient,” said Coulson.

“Unfortunately that is football and after (Davis was sacked) I just tried to get my head down so I could concentrate on getting fit and now I’m back hopefully I can help the team progress and push us up the league.”
