Andy Hessenthaler takes team to National League South outfit where ex-forward McGleish is assistant manager

Leyton Orient visit National League South side Wealdstone tomorrow (Tuesday) for their second pre-season fixture of the summer.

Andy Hessenthaler’s men played Italy’s under-19s last Thursday and lost 1-0 with temperatures hitting 35 degrees.

O’s supporters will now get a chance to see their team in action for the first time on home soil this season.

They’ve made eight additions to the squad from last year while nine have moved on and adult fans can attend the match at Grosvenor Vale for just £8.

It is £4 for concessions (over 65s and students with ID) and only £1 for under-18s while a programme is also available for a pound.

A statement on the Wealdstone website read: “We would like to thank Andy for bringing the O’s first team squad to the Vale for their first pre-season game in England.

“Orient have been quite active in the transfer market during the close season and will no doubt be looking to challenge for one of the coveted top league places come the end of the season.”

Hot food and drink are available from the catering unit situated behind the Ruislip Social club and there is a tea bar in the ground which will also be providing hot and cold drinks plus food.

Catalyst Sports Management are sponsoring the match ball and David Hunt is likely to feature for the Stones. He spent two years at Brisbane Road between 2003 and 2005 before leaving to join Northampton Town.

The 33-year-old made 74 appearances in all competitions for Orient, scoring twice and receiving three red cards during his time at E10.

Meanwhile assistant manager at Wealdstone is Scott McGleish, who had four separate playing spells with the O’s.

McGleish, now 42, first played for the east Londoners on loan from Charlton Athletic in 1994 and returned permanently for the 1996/97 campaign.

He only stayed with Orient for one season, scoring eight goals, before coming back to Brisbane Road on loan in 2009.

After success, he signed a two-year deal in the summer of 2009 and found the net 12 times to help keep the club in League One. McGleish scored 18 goals the following campaign, but wasn’t offered a new deal and departed E10.

Orient supporters will get the chance to see their old striker tomorrow and a first glimpse of the new O’s squad for the 2016/17 season plus are likely to see the Wealdstone Raider!
