If the O’s go three goals up at the Crabble Athletic Ground, they will hope to show they can hold onto it this time

Leyton Orient’s National League clash away to Dover Athletic is the perfect chance for the players to show they have learned from past mistakes.

The O’s head to the Crabble Athletic Ground on Saturday still smarting from last weekend’s disappointing finish against Gateshead in the last eight of the FA Trophy.

Justin Edinburgh’s team were three goals to the good, but conceded three times in the final 22 minutes to draw 3-3 with the Heed and they will do battle again on Tuesday (March 6).

Before that, Orient visit Dover and they are another team who recently fought back from 3-0 down to level the scores against the east Londoners.

On that occasion, on February 3, David Mooney scored a stoppage time winner to see them progress in the Trophy, but it was a different story on Saturday and Edinburgh knows there are things to address.

“I understand there is a lot of work to do,” said the 48-year-old, when reflecting on the 3-3 draw.

“It is about understanding and recognising situations.

“We were able to turn the tide again at Dover when it had gone against us and we weren’t able to do that on Saturday, so that’s something we’ve got to address and learn from.

“We have learnt a lot of things in a short space of time since I’ve been here, but with the Gateshead game as comfortable as it was, we shouldn’t have allowed the opposition to come back in.

“But we will address that and we will look at strategies and ways of dealing with it and do just that. It’s a mentality and I’ve not questioned the players on many occasions since I’ve been here.

“The disappointment is because of how well we played in the first hour and that just proves as good as you are, you have to be like that for 90 minutes.

“We stopped doing the right things with the ball and certainly the right things without the ball and combine them two and you are always going to be in danger of something going against you in a game.”

After having a week to reflect on Saturday’s frustrating complacency, Orient will look to respond in a positive fashion at Dover and claim another away victory.

Edinburgh’s men must then get ready for the long trip to Gateshead and, after last weekend, a win is much-needed in the North East at the International Stadium.
