Ex-Gillingham boss discusses performance of Jay Simpson after his second appearance of the campaign

Leyton Orient boss Andy Hessenthaler paid tribute to Yeovil Town manager Darren Way after Saturday’s encounter.

The Glovers defeated the O’s 1-0 at Brisbane Road with Tom Eaves scoring the only goal of the game.

It was a shock result with the east Londoners unbeaten in three matches before last weekend’s clash.

While Yeovil had lost their last five fixtures in League Two, but they upset the form guide in E10 to take all three points.

“You’ve got to give the opposition a lot of credit. Darren’s team have come here and worked their socks off,” said Hessenthaler.

“They played the 4-3-3 and 4-5-1 and caused us problems all over the pitch. They were getting to the ball first.

“We weren’t and we were second best so we need to give them credit. As much as we weren’t particularly good, they were very good.”

Orient’s manager was pleased with the performance of Jay Simpson, who was making just his second appearance of the campaign.

The 27-year-old impressed during his 27 minute cameo and came close to scoring deep into stoppage time.

Simpson fired an effort past Yeovil goalkeeper Artur Krysiak, but Kevin Dawson got back to clear off the line.

Hessenthaler added: “It is a set play that has undone us again and that’s disappointing, but when you start chasing it people do try and force things.

“In the end we had Jay dropping deep trying to make things happen and that is because they want to score and turn it around. That is the group we’ve got in the dressing room and we will keep working hard.

“Jay looked bright and his back seems to be good. He’ll have another weeks training and hopefully he’ll be back in for the weekend.”

Orient announced this afternoon Steven Alzate and Josh Koroma have signed their first professional contracts with the club.

Both have agreed initial two-year deals with the O’s having the option to extend them by a third year.
