National League: Leyton Orient 3 Barnet 1
Leyton Orient stretched their unbeaten start to the new National League season to 11 games with a fine 3-1 win at home to London rivals Barnet this afternoon.
Justin Edinburgh’s men were level at the break, but second half goals from James Dayton and Macauley Bonne secured another excellent three points.
The O’s stuck with the same team for the seventh consecutive match and took the lead in the 11th minute through an unlikely source.
A Jobi McAnuff free kick was headed back across goal by Charlie Lee and on hand to slide home was Josh Coulson.
Orient didn’t hold onto their advantage for long, however, as Wes Fonguck drilled in from long range to level with 23 on the clock.
It remained 1-1 until half time and Edinburgh made a double substitution in the 61st minute when Dale Gorman and James Alabi come on for Lee and Josh Koroma.
Seven minutes later and the decisive third goal of the match occurred and it went the way of the hosts.
Craig Clay passed into Dayton’s path and he curled home with his left foot to keep up his impressive start to the campaign.
Orient were full of confidence now and almost added a third on two occasions before they finally did.
Captain McAnuff whipped in another superb cross and at the second time of asking, Bonne fired home his fifth goal of the season.
He left the field to a standing ovation a minute before full time with Matt Harrold the man to replace him as Orient held on for a sixth triumph of the term.
This result places them third in the table after 11 matches with 23 points to their name ahead of next weekend’s clash with leaders Harrogate Town.
