The 33-year-old fan favourite joined the O’s in July 2011 and played an integral part of Russell Slade’s side that challenged for promotion to the Championship in 2013/14.

He is noted for his prolific partnership with Kevin Lisbie in the 2013/14 season, which saw them score a combined 39 goals across all competitions.

Mooney departed the club in 2015 to join Southend United before re-joining at the start of last season, scoring six goals for the O’s during the 2017/18 season, but has failed to get in the first-team so far this term.

The club statement said: “Leyton Orient would like to place on record what a great servant David has been across his two spells with the club, scoring 57 goals in 206 appearances, and we would like to wish him success in whatever he does in the future.

“David will always receive a warm welcome whenever he visits the O’s.”
