Spurs supporters regularly chanted for the Argentinean throughout memorable spectacle and it contributed towards a special day for the 45-year-old
On a day where White Hart Lane was filled with legends, the applause and adulation for Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino was telling.
The Argentine has only been Spurs manager since the summer of 2014, but has built up a strong rapport with the supporters.
It is unsurprising considering the progress Tottenham have made under Pochettino, yet yesterday demonstrated the affection for the 45-year-old.
Legends such as Cliff Jones, Glenn Hoddle, Ossie Ardiles and Ledley King graced the White Hart Lane pitch.
Each received huge cheers from the home fans, as did all of the 48 former Spurs heroes who were introduced.
But Tottenham supporters chanted for Pochettino from the moment they entered the old stadium and regularly throughout a memorable day.
Typically, the Spurs boss was happy to downplay the continuous chants of his song, but it just adds to his magical charm.
Pochettino said: “It was very nice for me and I want to say thank you for all the love. The energy was fantastic and special.
“It was a very special moment for me (to hear the fans singing my name), but all the club staff and the players deserve the love that the fans showed.”
Tottenham’s performance against Manchester United more than anything else was a proper way to sign off at this White Hart Lane.
Spurs teams over the last 118-years have played with flare and skill and so did this current team.
Dele Alli produced some stunning touches while homegrown hero Harry Kane was on hand to score the final Tottenham goal at the Lane.
It had to be Kane and it was done in elegant fashion, like so many stars of the past on the current pitch.
For Pochettino, the last day at White Hart Lane was his most special memory and it is hard to argue with him.
The ex-Southampton boss has overseen some fantastic wins against Arsenal in N17 in addition to other excellent results.
Chelsea have tasted defeat at the Lane at the hands of Pochettino and both Manchester clubs have lost comprehensively.
And while this one-goal win could have been by a much bigger margin, the occasion made it a stand-out moment for the Tottenham boss.
The result, the performance and especially the Farewell Ceremony made sure it stood out for the proud Argentinean.
“I think for now it will always be the last day. For me it was a very exciting day and it was perfect,” said Pochettino when asked about his best memory of White Hart Lane.
“Our preparation for the game was perfect, the game went perfect because we played well and got the three points.
“Then the ceremony was fantastic and to share that with all the legends, the staff and the fans as well as family. For me the last day at White Hart Lane will always be the most special day.”
