Woodford Town endured further disappointment as they were beaten 3-1 at home to Clapton in the replay of Saturday’s controversial encounter at the Old Spotted Dog.

Woodford started well and had taken a 1-0 lead through a fiercely struck Taku Mashingaidze free kick. A

n improved display from the visitors saw them turn the tie with two quick goals to gain the advantage at the break.

The hosts pushed valiantly for a breakthrough in an end to end second half but their hopes were all but eradicated by a third Clapton goal followed by a harsh looking red card for Woods striker Temi Babola after a heavy collision.

Woods assistant manager Neil Day admitted his side were well beaten but bemoaned the teams luck at the moment.

“We didn’t do enough to win tonight which was disappointing and to rub salt in the wound we’ve just seen the video of Saturday’s penalty which proved what we had suspected,” Day said.

“Even tonight our players were convinced the Clapton keeper had fumbled a shot over the line at 2-1 and it wasn’t given-saying that Clapton were the better side tonight so deserved to go through.”
