Hackney’s Anne Keothavong was knocked out of the Olympic Games on her debut, as she suffered a three-set defeat at the hands of Caroline Wozniacki.

World number 76 Keothavong started excellently at Wimbledon on Centre Court, but in the end Dane Wozniacki’s class shone through as she recorded a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory.

Keothavong, 28, showed real spirit as she battled to take the first set 6-4.

Then, in the second set, the Hackney resident fought back from 3-0 down to draw level at 3-3.

However, former world number one Wozniacki then took real control, as Keothavong tired, to claim the third set 6-2.

“I thought I got off to a great start, I played great tennis in the first set and outplayed her,” said Keothavong.

“But she did get better. I don’t feel like it was a match I lost.

“She beat me and she was the better player.

“Being on Centre Court was amazing. It wasn’t full, but the people who were there made plenty of noise. I couldn’t be more proud to represent Britain.”
