Taekwondo ace focused on training

Walthamstow’s Lutalo Muhammad was named to the Team GB taekwondo squad for this summer’s Olympics amid much controversy.

European champion Muhammad, 21, was nominated by his governing body at the expense of world number one Aaron Cook, who had withdrawn from the British talent programme to go solo and appealed against his omission in the face of much public support.

The British Olympic Association upheld the original decision to choose Muhammad, who said: “It has been an ordeal and it has been difficult at times.

“Throughout all the headlines my focus was always on my training so I was ecstatic when I found out the selectors had that much confidence in me.

“I have no problems with Aaron. When I get to London all I can do is perform to the best of my ability.”
